This ranking increase represents “particularly strong showings” in areas including campus environment and student outcomes.
“I am thrilled by our extraordinary rise in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education rankings,” said Michael A. Bernstein, Interim President of Stony Brook University. “This achievement is testimony to the unwavering commitment of our faculty and staff to fostering institutional excellence at Stony Brook University. I applaud the entire campus community for all of their efforts in reaching this exceptional milestone.”
The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Ranking is a list with rankings of higher education institutions. It is designed to “emphasize graduate success and student learning.”
The rankings are compiled by U.S. experts and universities using 15 individual performance metrics that are grouped into four pillars: resources (30 percent), engagement (20 percent), outcome (40 percent) and environment (10 percent).
Data sources for these rankings include the Times Higher Education (THE) U.S. Student Survey and THE Academic Reputation Survey, along with public data from IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System), the College Scorecard and Federal Student Aid on areas including completion rates and graduate employment.
